Description/Job Summary

The Senior Consultant (III) provides direct client consulting and leadership services including providing objective advice, expertise and specialized skills in the area of healthcare policy, strategy and management with the aim of creating value, maximizing growth and/or improving the business performance of clients. Senior Consultants (III) are experts in policy and technical areas, assuming the role of thought leaders. The Senior Consultant (III) directly supports Managing Directors in delivering consulting services leveraging policy, industry, and/or financial expertise in areas such as Medicaid financing and revenue maximization, long-term services and support (LTSS), healthcare IT, Medicaid managed care, business development, and provider reimbursement. The Senior Consultant (III) is responsible for all aspects of client relationships at advanced senior levels and/or responsible for all policy/technical aspects on projects. Senior Consultants (III) also deliver strategic advice and counsel to our Sellers Dorsey business partners, federal agencies, states, private companies and various associations and unions. Staff in this role are responsible for policy guidance, direct service delivery, project management, client satisfaction, identification of new and expanded business activities, including significant proposal development responsibilities and final client deliverables. Senior Consultant (IIIs) play an important role in revenue generation. This position is based in Austin, TX and may be performed on-site or remotely.


General Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Senior Consultants (III) are expected to account for hours on a monthly basis. They will be assigned to project teams to service clients and will also spend time on tasks and marketing and administrative activities, as needed. Senior Consultants (III) are expected to review periodic activity reports and work with their supervisors to develop strategies to ensure targets are met.
  • Sellers Dorsey Senior Consultants (III) are expected to travel as needed to meet the needs of client servicing, marketing, and business development. Senior Consultants understand that work may require periodic availability on weekends and nights.
  • Senior Consultants (III) are responsible for keeping current on the changing federal regulatory environment, learning state specific regulations to support assigned projects and staying current on industry trends.
Consulting Services
  • Depending upon specific areas of expertise, assume significant levels of responsibility on a diverse range of projects and project tasks; develop consulting expertise that can be replicated in future projects
  • Provide thought leadership leveraging policy, industry, and/or financial expertise in areas such as Medicaid financing and revenue maximization, LTSS, healthcare IT, Medicaid managed care, business development, and provider reimbursement.
  • Perform assigned and agreed upon project tasks maintaining client satisfaction; take ownership of work and produce “client-ready” deliverables with minimal supervision
  • Deliver subject matter expertise, consulting and strategic services on multiple clients/projects; manage assigned primary research and/or solution development; assist with proposal development, project plan development, data analysis, presentation development, and delivery of client presentations
  • May serve as a key client contact to respond to questions, provide required communications and be responsible for all aspects of client relationships at senior levels and/or be responsible for all policy/technical aspects of projects, ensuring a successful client engagement
Business Development
  • Use personal industry knowledge, relationships, business expertise, public policy awareness and political insight to identify leads that could result in profitable revenue growth for the Firm
  • Play a significant role in revenue generation
  • Actively seek to identify new business opportunities for the Firm within assigned clients to help maximize long term benefits and relationship between the client and Sellers Dorsey
  • In coordination with the marketing team, produce and review content for selected internal and external marketing tools, such as Firm newsletters, conference presentations, website content, and marketing webinars, to highlight the Firm’s capabilities, subject matter expertise and successes
Knowledge Management
  • Leverage policy and/or healthcare solution expertise to help the Firm develop, document and communicate new solutions
  • Share one’s advanced expertise in healthcare policy with other members of the Firm
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of federal and state health policy and regulatory environments, learn state specific regulations to support assigned projects, stay current on industry trends, and apply information in various client engagements

Required Qualifications

Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and 20 or more combined years in a public healthcare policy management role and/or in the healthcare consulting industry
  • Advanced degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Health, Health Administration, business, economics or MBA preferred
  • Executive or Administrator experience in leading teams to design, execute and implement significant changes within state Medicaid programs is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to relay complex technical terms in an easy to understand manner
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients and other outside audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required; experience in quantitative program evaluation is highly desirable
  • The ability to work effectively independently and in teams
  • Experience delivering services on several projects simultaneously
  • Time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
