Job summary

The Education Programs instructor works closely with the Education Programs staff to develop and deliver programs, both onsite and offsite. The instructor provides logistical support during programs and instructs, mentors and coaches program participants.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Participate in the planning, development and delivery of on and offsite education programs
  • Provide instruction, mentor and coach diverse audiences
  • Work collaboratively to evaluate the programs and the progress of participants
  • Assist in administrative tasks and program planning
  • Participate in meetings actively, thoughtfully, creatively and constructively
  • Serve as role model incorporating the aquarium's main messages and exemplifying effective communication

 

Absolutely Required Skills / Knowledge / Ability / Experience or Education

  • At least three years' experience working with school age children or teens in a formal or informal setting
  • Knowledge of California coastal ecology and natural history
  • Excellent English communication skills as demonstrated through oral conversation and presentations; written correspondence and instructional presentations
  • Be sincerely interested in diverse people of all ages, in nature, and in environmental conservation
  • Self-starter, proactive, flexible, problem solver
  • Punctuality and strong work ethic
  • Must possess the ability to obtain a valid California driver's license and maintain clearance in the DMV Pull Program 

 

Desired Skills / Knowledge / Ability / Experience or Education

  • Experience with various forms of educational technology including equipment, programs, and apps
  • Comfort working with Google Calendars, Drive and Classroom
  • Able to write and speak clearly, concisely and fluently in Spanish and English

 

Ancillary Responsibilities

  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Designing and leading outdoor learning experiences
