General Summary The Patagonia Creative team is a full service in-house agency providing design, editorial, photographic, and video content, as well as developing and maintaining the visual identity of the Company. As a member of the Senior Creative Team, working closely alongside the Director of Edit as well as the category Creative Directors, the Director of Photography oversees the members of the Photo Editing team as they source, assign, and edit Patagonia's field photography assets for use throughout the Company's print and digital marketing materials, catalogs and journals, and books. The Director works to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the entire photo editing process, which includes but is not limited to: photo research, photo submission editing, final image placement in layout, final color correction, development of seasonal photo briefs, photography assignments, shot list development, ambassador coordination as it relates to photo shoots, sample coordination for shoot participants, budgeting, and production support, as well as seeding product with photographers and maintaining steady communication with all contributing photographers regarding relevant campaigns and photo needs. In addition to supervision of the photo editing process, the Director also reviews and provides feedback on photos included in any and all Company materials, as well as manages the Photo Department budget, the Photo Department contracts and legal concerns, the Company Staff Photographer, and the Department's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Essential Job Functions
  • Manages the Photo team and oversees the entire photography process from photo brief to archiving. Provides accurate direction to the Photo Editors.
  • Assigns projects, distributes work to Photo Editors. Tracks the work against deadlines.
  • Creates an annual budget to support Photo Department. Tracks budget through the fiscal year. Able to communicate status at any time.
  • Creates a consistent process across all projects and maintains it.
  • Responsible for managing the flow of photo assets throughout the design process, working closely with the manager of the Digital Asset Management system.
  • Reviews and provides feedback on color before assets go to print.
  • Oversees the photo submissions to the department via contract and freelance photographers. Responsible for the timely follow up on all outside Photographer's inquiries.
  • Identifies new photographic talent for future use.
  • Develops and implements DEI initiatives as they relate to Company photography and photo process.
  • Meets with Photo Editors on a regular basis to provide feedback and coaching on work in progress.
  • Executes performance evaluations and goal-setting with all Photo Editors
  • Keeps photo team staffed and makes decisions on photo organization in conjunction with Global Creative Director.Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain a composed and professional demeanor within a flexible and (at times noisy) work environment.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally utilizing various transportation methods: Ability to travel internationally in coach class.Minimum Job Requirements
  • Degree in Photography or related field.
  • 2 years experience in digital photography workflow
  • Working knowledge of Macintosh computers with demonstrated experience in the use of such programs as: Lightroom, Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel, Portfolio, PowerPoint
  • Ability to translate a written creative brief into photography appropriate to a project
  • Working knowledge of professional digital photography, digital workflow, terminology, and color correction
  • Technical knowledge of the sports the Company produces clothing for in order to recognize publishable photos.
  • Ability to review images with a technical understanding of image reproduction.
  • Knowledge of design procedures from the comping process through the printing process.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain schedules.
  • Excellent customer service skills, in person, on the phone and in writing.
  • Comfortable with team-based work structure; ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job.
