Summary
This announcement is for a Supervisory Dentist, within the Dental services branch of the Crownpoint Healthcare Facility in Crownpoint, NM. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Supervisory Dentist in the implementation and operation of the Crownpoint Healthcare Facility Dental Program.
Duties
- Responsible for overall assessment, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all components of the dental program
- Establishes and implements policies, program plans and organizational structures to meet the needs of the program and evaluates the program to assure the program keeps pace with changes in healthcare.
- Maintains CMS and other regulatory compliance. Determines staffing needs to meet the clinical and prevention needs for the oral halt of the community.
- Responsible and accountable for maintaining a significant budget that includes dental and support personnel, equipment, supplies, travel, training, deferred services, grants, etc.
- Evaluates and directs all aspects of business office functions through subordinates supervisors including procedures coding and billing to maximize collection rates for the dental program.
- Performs a full range of professional duties in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases and dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative and/or preventive measures.
- Performs dental services of scope, quality and quantity consistent with the IHS, the service unit and dental program policies.
- Directs personal and/or through subordinate supervisor all professional, technical support, business office and secretarial staff.
- Conduct regular staff meetings with subordinate supervisors and staff to discuss work requirements, workflow, system processes, personnel issues, equipment needs, etc.
- Formulates and issues verbal and/or written instructions and procedures for non-routine and complex assignments, new or charged program functions or processes. Reviews, modifies, approves or rejects changes in function, procedures, personnel assignments and other matters proposed by subordinate supervisors.

Qualifications

Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the (ADA) or the (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments.
Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

Additional Requirements for the GS-13 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service or obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Making radiographic examinations of the oral cavity, diagnosing pathological or irregular conditions, administering local anesthesia, performing simple and complex restoration of cavities, and performing single and relatively uncomplicated multiple extractions of teeth. Experience should also include performing administrative tasks such as assessing, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating resources for dental services and performing other requirements of the position.
